Some Stats About Yesterday, Site Updates
Yesterday was a huge day for UO.UltimaCodex.com, or the The Crossroads as we are now calling it (more on that in another post). I want to talk a little bit about statistics and activity here yesterday, September 29, 2012, because you may find it interesting, even if I don’t discuss specific numbers.
As you may know, we had Ben “Bandit LOAF” Lesnick from the Wing Commander CIC liveblogging from the Ultima Online 15th Anniversary party. He was posting updates, commentary, and photos for pretty much the entire event, even from lunch, and we owe him a lot for all of that.
The graph you see in the image above starts with September 24th, when the anniversary events started to kick in, and ends with yesterday, the 29th. This part of the Ultima Codex did about 25% of a normal month’s activity yesterday, mostly from people following the liveblogging. It was about half as much activity as the main Ultima Codex’s best day, which was the announcement of Ultima Forever. The UO site and Ultima Forever’s site were nearly tied in activity as well (The U4E site’s record was also the announcement of U4E).
The cynic would say that activity was due to the fact that a lot of people were having issues either watching or hearing the live UStream from the UO party and Ben’s updates were the best alternative. There is some truth to that, and you still can’t watch the videos online, however there was also a lot of interest in general for the event and to see some things that weren’t being shown through UStream. All this past week, MMORPG and gaming sites in general were talking about UO’s anniversary and so it wasn’t too surprising in hindsight.
Putting it into Context
Since UltimaCodex.com and Forever.UltimaCodex.com both had records set on the same day, if you combine them, then yesterday the UO site saw about a third of the combined activity they had on the U4E announcement day.
Technical difficulties with streaming or not, A lot of people showed up looking for information about UO, the anniversary, and UO’s future plans.
Site Updates
This is just a quick note, since a few people have asked. You’re seeing a different look on the site. There is a lot planned for the site over the next few weeks, including some major additions. If the site was a videogame, we have some things in beta testing that are about to be wrapped up and pushed out live over the next week or so. We had to put off some anniversary-related items and posts in order to revamp the site, and we hope to get to those soon.
