Interview with UO’s Lead CG Supervisor
UO Forums has put together a nice interview with J.P. “The GrimmOmen” Harrod, UO’s Lead CG Supervisor. He’s also handles Art Lead/Director duties.
Here are a few excerpts:
Q: What is your official job title? What does it cover/involve?
A: My official title is Lead CG Supervisor. Generally, a Lead CG Sup is in charge of tools (evaluation, creation, implementation, and support) and pipeline (the processes that artists follow to create art and get that artwork into the game) development. Since I’ve been doing UO art for… a long time now, my responsibilities currently also include Art Lead/Director responsibilities, which include schedule development for the art team, as well as writing up reviews and feedback for artwork being developed for UO. I also get to do concept artwork and on a good day, animation for our creatures. I’m also responsible for processing all the artwork we create to get it in the game.
Q: If there was one thing you would change about UO what would it be?
A: I’d make UO a hybrid 2D/3D game, possibly using the Unity client and get UO to be a cross-platform game. That’s assuming I didn’t have to worry about all the resource and technical hurdles required to pull that off!
I was hoping to hear a lot more about UO’s future direction but those kinds of questions were probably not permitted, or I believe they would have been asked by the UO Forums staff and members. It’s still an entertaining interview and worth reading since Grimm is such an important part of the UO team. Kudos to UO Forums for putting together a good interview.
